The future of journalism is in good hands if the 2018 Pro For a Day workshop is any indication.  College students from around  San Diego had a unique opportunity to produce news stories based on a “ripped from the headlines” scenario. Some of the budding reporters wrote articles for online and broadcast while others covered the events using social media. Still photographers captured images that told the story of the long and rewarding day.

The workshop kicked off with a panel discussion with NBC 7  VP of news, Greg Dawson, KFMB reporter Shannon Handy, San Diego U-T digital journalist Luis Gomez and NBC7/T20 news operations manager Donna M Stewart.  The panel shared tips on the importance of internships, and what hiring managers look for in potential employees.

The Southwestern College video production class earned extra credit for shooting and editing the stories for the broadcast students.

This was the 15th year of  the workshop.
