SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Association of Black Journalists will host college and high school students from around San Diego County as part of its annual “Pro for a Day” journalism boot camp.
The boot camp will teach the students the basics of print and broadcast
journalism.
Professionals from NBC 7/39, the San Diego Union-Tribune, and other media outlets will participate as mentors in the program.
The students will achieve hands-on experience in the field of journalism.
“We’re hoping to pass on what we know so that the next generation of journalists will be ready to take their place in today’s shrinking newsrooms,” said SDABJ president Jerry McCormick.
About 60 students will write articles for the Web and produce a broadcast story that will be posted on iTunes U.

This is the sixth year that Southwestern College and SDABJ have partnered for the program.
