On Saturday, October 29, college and high school students from all over San Diego
gathered at Southwestern College in Chula Vista for SDABJ’s 2011 Pro for a Day workshop.
An annual event , Pro for a Day is meant to expose aspiring journalists to the life of professionals in the business and provide them with hands-on training in the skills they’ll need to be successful. The day begins with the students getting a Capital “J” primer from SDABJ members and guest panelists before being unleashed at a mock press conference. After the press conference the budding journalists work the pros, developing a story for broadcast, print and online. The photographers capture the events of the day and work with a photo editor to create a photo essay. The day ends with everyone reconvening to share their experiences.
