The SDABJ scholarship helped me to go to college and study something I am passionate about, how media shapes our politics. In college, I became fascinated with how the evolution of social media has created so many new challenges for our political discourse. That led me to work in on tech policy in California state government, and ultimately in Washington, DC, thinking about ways we can ensure that technology strengthens, rather than undermines, the institutions of our democracy. Our country faces enormous challenges and it is incumbent upon us to make technology a positive tool to help our press corps and our government change it for the better. SDABJ helped provide the path for me to tackle these issues and I am so thankful for the investment they made in my career and so many others.
