Every year we take a mogwen 2ment to recognize a member of SDABJ who has gone above and beyond at every turn for our organization. When we look back on the year at what this small but mighty group has accomplished, there is always one person who stands out as that quiet leader.

At the 2016 scholarship reception we honored Gwen Pierce. She is truly one of the kindest people in our group. She is fun loving, as evidenced by her Facebook posts of her adventures with her husband of 32 years.  She is devoted to her family, as evidenced by her the time she spends making memories with them. She is a connoisseur of fine wine, as evidenced by her visits to wineries.  And she loves to travel to those wineries and any place else when she can. She is full of creative ideas as evidenced by her amazing website, The Chocolate Voice.com. In spite of an extremely active social life,  she is always willing to do whatever task we put her name next to on the to-do list.  SDABJ is so appreciative and thankful when she finds time to reach out to organizations for sponsorships. In fact, most of the sponsors we had for this year’s reception are due to her efforts.  Every good journalist knows the secret to a successful newsroom is keeping folks fed.  To that end, she has ensured the students that participate in our Pro For a Day workshop do not go hungry.

This honor is long overdue. We appreciate her and all that she has done  Please join us in congratulating Gwen on being SDABJ’s 2016 Jerry McCormick Member of the year.
